We Are Losing Our Youth
America is Rotting from the “Inside” out and from the ”Youth Side” up
The greatest threat to the US Constitution and the very existence of America is our failure to pass our Judeo-Christian, American values to our children. America’s youth are being led like sheep to the slaughter; away from the values that have made America great towards a European-style, secular socialism.
The Public Religion Research Institute out of Washington, DC has just published their American Values Survey (AVS).
According to the survey, one-third of young adults report they have no formal religious affiliation. More than 1-in-4 (26%) young adults say that America has never been a Christian nation.
The survey indicates an overall increase of support for same-sex marriage. Public support for same-sex marriage increased by 8 points from 2008 to 2010 (29% to 37%). The generation gap on the issue of same-sex marriage is striking. According to the AVS;
- 75% of younger Americans (age 18-29) support either same-sex marriage (52%) or civil unions (23%)
- Nearly two-thirds (64%) of young adults favor allowing gay and lesbian people to adopt children
Nearly two-thirds (63%) of Americans under 30 say that one of the biggest problems in this country is that not everyone is given an equal chance in life. 51% say that government has gotten bigger over the years because the problems we face have become bigger.
To recap, what do American youth believe?
- They are increasingly professing no religious affiliation.
- The majority support redefining marriage to include same-sex marriage.
- They support allowing gays to adopt children.
- More of them believe that America is not and has never been a Christian nation.
- Youth believe that one of the biggest problems in America is that everyone is not given “equal opportunity” in life.
- They are embracing the mindset that big government is the answer to our nation’s problems.
The results of the 2008 Presidential Election strongly indicate that these beliefs are translating into how young adults, ages 18-29, in America are voting. According the Roper Center of the University of Connecticut;
- 66% of the generation 18-29 voted for Barack Obama. More than any other age demographic.
- 30-44; 52%
- 45-64; 50%
- 65-0ver; 45%
The generation ages 29 and under, do not have the historical educational foundation or life experience, thus the perspective, to put into context the horrific damage big government, secularism and moral relativism have inflicted on our nation. American exceptionalism, as older generations have known it, has not been the experience of younger Americans.
As older Americans, if we do not pass our American, Judeo-Christian values down to our youth, the America we know will go the grave with us. The time is now to restore America by strategically and intentionally passing down our American, Judeo-Christian values to our nation’s youth. Together, let’s reach and equip the next generation of great American Christian leaders!
